The first run of thunderbirds came from the factory with the desirable n-20 package, which included power everything and all the top-of-the-line convenience options. Notable options include an in-dash tachometer, clock, 150mph speedometer, telescopic steering wheel, wide white wall tires, folding soft top and detachable hard top. This t-bird has undergone a comprehensive, absolute highest quality frame-off restoration. This is a car of significance not only because of its outstanding condition (perhaps the finest example in north america) and extreme rarity but also due to it being documented by the thunderbird club as the longest one owner thunderbird, as well as, the earliest produced car on the list. This car is ready to drive, show and enjoy for many years to come. Presented in classic thunderbird turquoise blue over a two-color turquoise and white interior, this 1955 thunderbird is a stellar early production example of the rare and desirable first generation classic american roadster, and was subject to a complete professional restoration, which was then masterfully finished in correct ford turquoise, and has limited sunny-day miles since. The restoration was undertaken with an eye to keeping this t-bird as close to the way it rolled off the assembly line in early 1955 as possible. The body boasts correct panels gaps and fit, all of the brightwork has been refinished or replated, and the car even rides on wide white wall tires with correct factory wheel covers. The engine bay is also restored to new-stock condition, with an eye toward originality throughout. The interior is expertly restored to a very high level and presents extremely well, with finishings, gauges, knobs and controls all in outstanding condition. No front fender vents, no sun visors on production units, chrome doughnut exhaust ring (early production cars only), wedge-shaped heater knobs. Airman wallace kirkman, stationed at lowery air force base, purchased his brand-new sports car, this fine thunderbird, from skyland motors. The original car invoice date was november 9, 1954. On december 13, 1954, kirkman was transferred to nellis air force base in las vegas until his discharge in 1961. Arizona motor vehicle department records indicate the car has been registered from 1962 through the present in arizona. This is a true survivor with only 28,500 miles and is in remarkable shape for being almost 60 years old. The car is almost entirely stock with the exception of a few repairs that have been made over the years. We have the original owners manual and registration from 1959 to go with the car. The engine is the original 352cid v-8 that pulls 300 horsepower with a 4 barrel carburetor coupled to a cruise-o-matic transmission with 3:10 gearing. The car has had the water pump replaced, the radiator re-cored, bypass hose replaced, water control valve replaced, custom fit new spark plug wires, points and condenser replaced, ignition timing adjusted and the battery compartment and soldering redone with new cables. The entire brake system has also been gone through and overhauled including repacking the front wheel bearings and replacing the seals. The suspension is all stock with the exception of the upper and lower control arm bushings, idler arm and sway bar components being replaced. The front end has also been aligned. The interior is just as it came in 1959 with the original leather on all of the seats. They were taken apart and all of the foam padding has been replaced prior to putting the covers back on. All of the leather was cleaned and reconditioned along with the front seat mechanisms adjusted and lubricated. All of the electric window motors that needed were replaced. The original am radio works perfectly and plays through the revolutionary (at the time) center speaker located in the console of the car. The dash panel and pad were removed, copied cut, dyed and replaced as the old one was cracked and faded. All of the gauges were taken apart and lubed. All of the mechanisms for the clock are intact but it is not currently running. All of the interior lights and other gauges/warning lots function properly. The exterior is in very good shape for its age with no rust and only some minor paint flaws. All of the chrome is in excellent shape with the exception of the arrows on the door and the antenna holder on the front. There is some pitting on those parts but nothing that cannot be fixed and re-chromed. The major parts (bumpers, trim etc.) are all in great shape. This is an exceptional car for a thunderbird enthusiast that is looking to do minimal work to have a show winning car that is also a pleasure to drive. It runs and rides like an absolute dream. I purchased this vehicle in early March from aformer Car Collection Museum that had become run down and out of business forseveral years. This gorgeous T-Bird was neglected and forgotten about inside abarn that was falling down. Once I got the vehicle loaded up and back home I hadmy mechanic go through the basic mechanics of the vehicle. With a fresh batteryand a supplemental fuel line we were able to get the vehicle running withinminutes. The following work has been done to the vehicle since I purchased it... Original tea pot 4 barrel carburetor was sent out to Hill's ThunderbirdCenter in Ohio and professionally rebuilt by Thunderbird specialists Both headson the motor were removed due to a stuck valve on the passenger side. They weresent to a professional machine shop where they were totally rebuilt andserviced. The soft top needs minorrestoration and a new.
